What a Difference 2 Years Make - Sant Beuno Lodge

On the Summons for the Sant Beuno Lodge No. 6733 Meeting to take place on October 7, 2015 item 4 was “to discuss the long term viability of the Lodge with a view to surrendering the Warrant in accordance with Rule 190 Book of Constitutions”. This discussion led to the agreement to hand the warrant back to the Province on December 2nd, 2015. This was due to the fact that the Lodge was down to 9 active members and was finding it increasingly hard to continue both on the floor and financially. W. Bro Ray Houlbrook, P.Pr.G.Alm a permanent guest and supporter approached Sant Beuno with a plan that he had been in discussion with W. Bro David Fildes P.M. Sant Beuno. The plan was discussed and strongly supported by the W.M. Mike Holme P.Pr.S.G.D and the Secretary W. Bro Kevin Jones P.Pr.G.Swd.B and the majority of the rest of the Lodge. The plan was to change the way the Lodge operated. The Lodge was to move buildings and towns, drop from 8 to 4 meetings a year, tyle at 7 p.m. or 7.30 p.m. and to only have a Festive Board at Installations or special events. This would lead to a reduction in Lodge fees and overall costs of membership.

W. Bro Fildes and W. Bro Houlbrook had recently visited a couple of Scottish Lodges and had been taken by the size and enthusiasm of the Scottish brethren. These Lodges tyled at 7.30 p.m.

The Lodge agreed to these proposals and the plan was put in place and the surrender of the Warrant cancelled. At the installation meeting on November 8 joining members were proposed and seconded to join in 2016. Subsequently, there have been four Initiates and the membership stands at 20.

Two years later in October Sant Beuno hosted a Special Lodge night where there were 115 present for dining. The Lodge was graced by a visit of 30 visiting Scottish Brethren mainly from Polmont Lodge No. 793 accompanied by brethren from 3 other Scottish Lodges. The Right Worshipful Master of Lodge Polmont – Bro Andrew Ure and the Officers of Lodge Polmont No. 793 gave a brilliantly performed demonstration of the 3rd Degree Scottish Rite.

This was a very pleasing event that justified what the Lodge members had done in 2015.
