W. Bro. William Samuel Dudley -90 and Still Working

W. Bro. William Samuel Dudley, a Past Master and the Almoner of Memory Lodge No. 4264, recently celebrated his 90th birthday with his working colleagues at the McDonalds Restaurant in Mold. Born 10th April 1925, Bill has worked for McDonald’s for nine years and is their oldest employee in Europe, possibly in the world!

Bill, like all young boys of his generation, started part-time work as an errand boy for a local baker at the age of twelve, moving on to work at Courtaulds at the age of fourteen.

During the Second World War, at the age of eighteen, Bill joined the Royal Navy in and served on HMS Nairana, an escort carrier on the Russian Convoys, for which he was awarded an Arctic Medal in 2013 from a grateful Russian Government and latterly a Campaign Medal from the British Government in 2014.

After demobilisation in 1946, Bill joined the Merchant Navy before going to work for John Summers in 1947, leaving in 1982 after thirty-five years’ service. Bill spent nine years working at British Aerospace before founding a taxi service company in Connah’s Quay in 1991, running the business for fifteen years before finally joining McDonald’s in 2006 at the age of eighty-one.

Bill has no intention of taking life easy and continues working two days a week at McDonald’s in Mold, where he is highly respected by the Management, combining this with taking time to support his local football team and helping at the Connah’s Quay Navy Club as well as his Freemasonry.

Bill has recently accepted a preferment in Provincial Grand Lodge with the Rank of Past Provincial Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies and will be invested at Llandudno on 10 October 2015. Congratulations Bill – Enjoy!
