Powis Lodge Donates £460 for the Purchase of Stage Piano

In June 2015, Powis Lodge of Freemasons based in Welshpool, Powys, donated £460 for the purchase of a stage piano for Welshpool High School. The school has about 1100 pupils and serves the town of Welshpool as well as a large rural hinterland. The Music Department has an outstanding reputation and includes a full school orchestra, a jazz band, a brass band, and a full choir. Many of the students are members of the North Powys Orchestra and Band, and a number of students have won places in national bands, orchestras, and choirs.

The School Jazz Band comprises a saxophone, brass players and a rhythm section of Grade 3 standard and upwards. Of all the groups in school, it is the one best suited to outside gigs and events. There was however one problem when performing outside the school due to the Band having no portable piano. Such a key instrument in the rhythm section severely limited performances at outside events with the Band having to borrow a piano from other organisations if one was available.

Some time ago the School began to think about fund-raising to purchase their own stage piano. Local Freemasons heard about their need and decided to try and solve the issue for the School. W. Bro Phil Addicott is here pictured with Mrs. Christine Evans (Head of Music), Miss Charles (Music Teacher) together with pupils of the school Jazz band.
