Pennant Lodge Holds 'Olde Welsh Night' In Aid of Ty Gobaith Children's Hospice

Each year, Pennant Lodge No. 7834, holds what it calls an ‘Olde Welsh Night’ at its Festive Board. The sole purpose of this being to raise funds for a Charity normally decided upon by its Worshipful Master or the Lodge membership.

Funds are raised by means of ‘fines’ for breaches of etiquette at the Festive Board; a Dutch Auction of donated Items; a raffle for similar items and by any other devious means of extracting money from the pockets of Lodge Members and Guests – numbering on average 50 to 60 persons, during the evening.

This year the chosen Charity is Ty Gobaith Hospice for Children, situated in the beautiful Conwy Valley overlooking the River Conwy. The hospice provides much-needed support and respite services for parents and families of children and young persons with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions; also support to children and young persons who have suffered trauma through loss of loved ones.

51 Lodge members and Guests of Pennant Lodge attended the Festive Board which was held on Saturday 14 May 2016 with an amazing total of circa £1,500 raised during the evening. The Lodge Committee then decided the amount should be rounded up to £1,600!

On Friday, 1st July 2016, Worshipful Master Paul Burton together with Lodge Secretary Roger Calverley, Treasurer Herbert Michael Thomas and Lodge member Frank Cook, attended Ty Gobaith to present the cheque to the Area Fundraiser, Eluned Yaxley, who told of the important work of Ty Gobaith and expressed grateful thanks to all who donated.
