Freemasons Continue Their Support of Local Hospice

Nightingale House Hospice was presented with a cheque recently from the Freemasons’ Grand Charity for £2,228. David Davies and Philip Marles, representing the Wrexham and Caergwrle Freemasons’ Lodges present the cheque to Mr. Chris Andrews of Nightingale House.

Since 1984, the Freemasons’ Grand Charity has donated over £10.5 million to adult hospices throughout Wales and England.

These donations will allow Nightingale House to continue providing specialist palliative care for patients and their families across North East Wales. In 2014, the cost of running the hospice was £2.65 million, equivalent to £7,200 a day. With less than 20% of this coming from local health board and government funding, the hospice relies hugely on the local communities it serves to help them raise the remaining 81%; approximately £2.1 million.

Chris Andrews, Area Fundraiser at Nightingale House, said, “We are very grateful to Wrexham and Caergwrle Freemasons’ Lodges for continuing to support the hospice. Their donation means a lot to us and our patients and their families as we would not be able to continue what we do without donations like these.”
