Bala Challenge CupInter Lodge Go-Karting Event

Torrential rain greeted the drivers as they competed in the 2017 Bala Challenge Cup at the International GoKarting Race track at Cerrigydrudian on Sunday 10th September. Eleven Lodge Teams comprising six drivers each recruited from members, families, and friends battled with the extreme conditions, which led to some wonderful “pirouettes” and “ploughing” demonstrations. Competition organiser, Mark Bennett of the Bala & Square & Compass Lodges, paid tribute to all who took part in such awful conditions but noted that not even the weather could dampen the fun and enthusiasm that was apparent throughout the day.

After a hearty Welsh breakfast and a comprehensive safety briefing competitors took to the track for their practice and timing laps before taking part throughout the whole of the afternoon in the gruelling race. As the sun broke through and the track dried out lap times starting tumbling – the race was on!

A great day full of fun, mischief, and friendly rivalry was had by all and, thanks to Mark, £975 was raised for local charities.

Will you enter a team next year or maybe come along as a spectator? GO ON! Mark would be over the moon if his efforts were justly rewarded with even more support from Lodges. Think of it as “White Table Evening” with spills and thrills!
